leg of lamb recipe slow cooker

leg of lamb recipe slow cooker

I have cooked almost a lot of dishes in slowcooker but nothing has been this tenderizing and flavorful than this leg of lamb recipe slow cooker. You cannot imagine how good the dinner table become on a day when you don’t have enough time and still want to serve your family a tasty dish.

I prefer boneless leg of lamb just because they are easier to cook than bone-in lamb. Sometimes when you use bone in leg of lamb the only problem arises is the doneness. A perfect doneness time may vary depend on theage of the lamb and what kind of lamb pieces we are using.

I often had bad time cooking the bone-in leg of lamb because sometimes it gets overcooked and sometimes it is not cooked properly. But in the case of boneless leg of lamb you don’t have to meet this situation.

If you marinate it overnight then you would meet a great taste, for real. Also, you can try out some veggies like bell pepper, carrots, and potatoes that will add extra taste to the dish.

  • 4 lb or 1600 gram of boneless lamb leg roast
  • 1 tsp of white pepper
  • 4 thymes
  • Black pepper
  • Kosher salt
  • 1 cup of red wine
  • 1 medium-sized chopped onion
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of rosemary
  • 1/2 cup of chopped celery

For gravy

  • 1/4 cup of all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 5 cups of lamb stock
  • 1/2 tsp of ground black pepper
  • Kosher salt

  1. Wash the leg of lamb in running water then pat dry using a kitchen towel making sure there is no moisture on the leg of lamb.
  2. Now using black pepper and kosher salt rub it on the leg of lamb pieces inside out and deep into the cracks you find.

  3. Take fresh chopped thyme, white pepper, minced garlic and rosemary and mix everything well. Use this mixture to rub on the leg of lamb on all asides and everywhere evenly. You can transfer this to a refrigerator to marine overnight or use it right after rubbing or marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  4. Use a slow cooker and add wine, chopped onions, celery and bay leaves. Shift the marinated to Crockpot and slow cook for 5 to 6 hours.

  5. After cooking remove the meat and check for the chunky shreds of the leg of lamb using a fork. You can also alternatively roast it for 2 to 3 hours in your oven at 350 degrees F. Add the reserved lamb stock to bowl to let it come to normal temperature.

Making gravy

  1. Use a skillet and heat the butter on medium flame until it completely melts down. In a bowl add the all purpose flour with a little lamb broth and whisk it well then add this to skillet and stir for 2 to 3 minutes the raw taste will get away.

  2. Add 5 to 6 tablespoons of lamb broth to the skillet and wait until the gravy comes to your desired consistency or thicken nicely. Season the gravy with the black pepper and kosher salt. Cook for the last 2 minutes after mixing the seasoning.

Recipe Notes

You should always go for the fresh leg of lamb than stored frozen leg of lamb or thawed leg of lamb. It is a good idea to trim the leg of lamb so the recipe becomes fewer oils or fat will leave oil from it.

You can add sliced potatoes and carrots to the bottom pan to make this dish healthy and veggie or to have a little different version. It is important that you use fresh vegetables than stored frozen veggies.

If you want to enhance the flavor of the dish you should sear the meat before you add this to the crock pot for the cooking process.

To add more flavors to this recipe you can use allspice powder and some of your favorite herbs at the last stage of cooking to make this dish tastier.

If you really want to taste a real good leg of lamb recipe then prepare it a night before and if you have room in your refrigerator then place it in the fridge so the other day you just have to put the slow cooker on the flame and prepare the delicious gravy.

Although, I have made the leg of lamb recipe slow cooker with gravy so I can serve it with rice but you can serve it just after cooking without using any kind of gravy.

In the matter of fact, I often like to do a lot of experiments in my kitchen because I spent a lot of hours as a full-time cook. Cooking has been my hobby since childhood so doing a lot of experiment and if a few result comes out tremendously I love to share this on my website so everyone can enjoy making in the same way.

I personally believe, not everything should cook traditionally because eating the same dish prepared in the same manner again and again and make you feel annoy for a particular recipe.

Just in the same case of leg of lamb recipe slow cooker, I love to serve it with gravy, sometimes without gravy, sometimes by adding a few herbs and spices and sometimes by adding the veggie.

This way the taste always has been changed and everyone love to eat the same dish again and again.
