A majority of hamburger meat recipes use ground beef for purposes of sheer ease, and it’s no different with this one. You’ll find that this ground beef burger recipe is super easy and doesn’t take very long at all to make.

It’s always best to choose meat that contains 15-20% fat, because any lower and you will lose some of the flavour and risk the burgers being quite dry. Also, there is really no need to put salt and pepper into the meat; all you have to do is just season the top and bottom of each patty.

For a standard ground beef burger recipe, it’s usually a good idea to form 5 to 6 ounce burgers. You will need to make sure to add a little dimple into each of the patties, which is something that not all hamburger meat recipes will have you do.

  • 1 pound ground beef chuck or round
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 medium size tomato chopped
  • 1 onion finely sliced
  • aluminium foil as required
  • lettuce as required
  • fresh ground black pepper to taste
  • salt to taste

  1. First you will need to take the beef out of the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about five minutes before you start forming the patties.

  2. Form each of the 5 to 6 ounce hamburger patties carefully. Use your thumb to put a little dimple into the middle of each patty. By doing this you will prevent the middle of the burger from puffing up while it is cooking.

  3. Make sure to season both sides of the hamburgers with salt and peppers. Although this may seem a little too basic, it will give your burger just the right amount of “kick” when it comes to the overall flavour.

  4. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a cast iron pan over medium heat. Cook the hamburger patties for about 3 to 4 minutes on each side. It really depends on how well done you like your burgers, so you will need to keep that in mind.

  5. Rest the burgers covered loosely with aluminium foil for five minutes before serving on a buttered bun with lettuce, tomato and onion. You can of course use whatever toppings you want on your burgers.
