Ingredients for this Japanese chicken teriyaki recipe include

  • 1 pound boneless chicken breasts cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 tbsp peanut oil you can use any cooking oil on hand
  • 1 packet teriyaki sauce
  • Optional toppings toasted sesame seeds and green onions
  • pepper to taste
  • sal to taste

Ingredients for the teriyaki sauce itself include

  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic peeled and minced
  • 2 tbps mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 2 tbps rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbps cornstarch
  • 1/2 tbps sesame oil
  • 1/4 tbps ground ginger

  1. First you must season the chicken with a generous amount of salt and pepper, then set it aside.

  2. Use a large sauté pan or wok to put the chicken in after. Heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat and stir chicken only occasionally until it is cooked all the way through. There should be no pink coloration when you cut into the chicken.

  3. As the chicken is cooking, prepare the teriyaki sauce.

  4. After the chicken has been prepared, pour the teriyaki sauce over it. Toss the chicken in the sauce to combine them until the chicken is fully coated all over. Keep cooking until the sauce comes to a simmer and begins to thicken.

  5. Remove from heat and serve right away. You may choose to garnish it with any of your favorite toppings if you want.

  6. Making the teriyaki sauce:

Simply whisk all of the ingredients together thoroughly until sauce has a smooth consistency.

Recipe Notes

As long as you follow all of the instructions in this super easy teriyaki chicken recipe, you shouldn’t have any problems. Remember to get all of your ingredients together before you begin.

You can choose to use a bit more than one pound, but not much more. The honey that this Japanese chicken teriyaki recipe calls for will sweeten the dish, adding that nice little extra kick to the flavor. Some people choose not to use honey when making this dish (wish is totally fine), but I highly recommend that you include it.

Rice wine vinegar is another important ingredient in this Japanese chicken teriyaki recipe, and it too will do wonders for enhancing the overall taste of the chicken. The average easy teriyaki chicken recipe doesn’t usually include garlic, but I included it here because I think it does a good job of balancing out the sweetness.

If you don’t like dishes that are too sweet, you should find this one to be just right. There are quite a few overly-complicated recipes for chicken teriyaki on the internet, but this is definitely not one of them. I don’t expect anyone to have a hard time with these instructions.
