Making pie crust

  • Kosher salt
  • 1 cup of shortening
  • 2 2/3 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup of cold water

Making apple pie filling

  • 6 cups of apple peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • Kosher salt
  • 3 teaspoons of lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • A pinch of nutmeg


Making the pie crust

  1. Take a large bowl and add flour and salt and whisk it using wire whisk until everything mixes well. Shift this bowl to the refrigerator along with the measured shortening and water to make them chill for an hour or two.

  2. Take the shortening and flour-salt mixture from the refrigerator. Use a pastry blender to cut the shortening into flour and add 1/2 cup of reserved chilled water and make fine dough. Adjust water and flour if requires. Divide them into 2 and set it aside.

  3. Sprinkle a little four on the surface and rolling pin before process. Dealing one pastry at a time, roll the dough on the rolling pin and make a fine 2 inches diameter or of your choice and shift this to a plate.

  4. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F.

Making pie filling

  1. Take a large bowl and add sliced apples. Also, add brown sugar, kosher salt, lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon and flour. Stir mix it so the mixture cover the apples nicely.

  2. Shift this mixture to the pie shell and cut the butter into several pieces. Add this onto sliced apples. Take the remaining dough and roll it.

  3. Now lay over the apple mixture. Now seal the crust from top to bottom. Now, fold the dough and flute the edges and cut slits from top to vent.

  4. Take a pastry brush and paint the top crust with milk. Now, sprinkle sugar on the top and bake it for next 15 minutes.

  5. Now, remove it from the oven and cover the edges from outside so it doesn't get burn. Now, bake the pie for another 25 to 30 minutes.
